The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is one of the largest single-event fundraiser for St. Jude nationwide.
The Program
The St. Jude Dream Home giveaway was created in 1991 by Dr. Donald Mack, a pediatric physician from Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Mack has relied on St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to treat many of his young patients with catastrophic diseases and was the first doctor to send the first out of state patient to St. Jude.
Dr. Mack is also a member of the ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Board of Directors and Governors. The first St. Jude Dream Home was constructed in Shreveport, Louisiana and raised $160,000 for St. Jude. Since that first giveaway, the Dream Home event in Shreveport has become an annual fundraiser raising over $19 million for the hospital.
This year, the program will include over 30 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaways and will continue to grow. As of December 2008, there have been 200 Dream Home winners and each giveaway includes approximately 15 to 20 other donated prizes valued at $1,000 or more. Prizes can include, but are not limited to automobiles, furniture, fine jewelry and shopping sprees.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors involved with the St. Jude Dream Home giveaway program. Your continuous support helps raise money in order for St. Jude to find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.
St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and children from countries around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and no child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay.
